People In Motion's Wheelchair Accessible Vans
(two lift accessible wheelchair vans are available for our members)
People In Motion has a lift-equipped, wheelchair-accessible van:
-
A full-size Ford Econoline with room for 2 wheelchairs and 4 passengers plus the driver, and this vehicle may be borrowed by members of People In Motion, so that they can easily access and experience the Okanagan Valley's fabulous array of community & natural resources.
We are excited to announce our new program:
|
By phoning the People In Motion office at (250) 861-3302, members may borrow a van on a first come - first served basis, in exchange for a suggested donation.
To borrow the van members of People In Motion must supply their own driver. A valid BC Class 5 drivers license is required if the passengers are immediate family members, otherwise a valid BC class 4 drivers license is required for friends, participants in organized groups or clients. The driver can take members on short weekday trips around town, (not to exceed 100 km from Kelowna, BC) e.g. for important appointments, shopping excursions or visiting friends. Through People In Motion members can book this convenient, door-to-door service for the exact times they need.
With sufficient advance notice given to the PIM office, members may borrow the van for trips of longer duration - a full day or two. This will enable them to experience firsthand some of the Okanagan Valley's magnificent natural landscapes and regional fairs, festivals & tourist attractions.
When availability allows People In Motion members may reserve the van for several days at a time.
As our name illustrates, People In Motion understands that mobility can be the most important community resource enabling people with disabilities to participate in activities outside their home. This service has the power to deliver happier, healthier & more socially invested citizens with disabilities. These individuals, in turn, may then wish to contribute back to their communities in any way they can. Accessible transportation is the critical puzzle piece that closes our human circle, where everyone can access and enjoy the many benefits of living in beautiful Kelowna, British Columbia.
